SLO: Tomorrow night at the Steynberg Gallery you are invited to: An Evening With Pilgrims & Prophets at 7 pm. The Steynberg Gallery is at 1531 Monterey in San Luis Obispo. An Evening with Pilgrims and Prophets is a two-part readers theatre where performers represent perspectives from four amazing twentieth century American writers whose lives are as remarkable as their words. You are invited to eavesdrop on the intimate conversations these pilgrims and prophets are having with themselves - and by extension with us. Storyteller Russell Swanagon and Author Toni Flynn bring together naturalists Edward Abbey and Annie Dillard; while playwrights Sharon Halsey-Hoover and David Hoover present a portion of their play unfolding as a memory poem about the extraordinary models of spiritual contemplation and activism, Thomas Merton and Dorothy Day. Those who wish can make a good will offering at the door Saturday night at 7 at the Steynberg.

Cambria: This Sunday for the Famous Jazz Artist Series in Cambria at the Hamlet, renowned bassist Luther Hughes and his band, "The Cannonball/Coltrane Project" performs. With national attention from it's numerous recordings and concert appearances, the Cannonball/Coltrane Project comes to the central coast for two performances on Sunday – at 4pm and 7:15pm. Avila: The 5th Annual fundraising Avila Beach Music Festival for OPTIONS takes place at the Avila Beach Golf Resort September 2 this year, featuring ZZ Top – as the headliner of the Festival. The show begins at 7 pm.  The Avila Beach Music Festival benefits OPTIONS, a local non profit organization that serves people with traumatic brain injuries and developmental disabilities. OPTIONS produces this event entirely with staff members and volunteers. ZZ Top, sometimes referred to as the little old band from Texas, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. 1997 Super Bowl performers, producing more than 20 albums, they are the only major band today whose original lineup has been intact for over 40 years. Last in San Luis Obispo county in 2004, you can hear them and help a worthy cause on Sept. 2. Tikcets are on sale

SLO: The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art offers Summer Art Camps for Kids in downtown San Luis Obispo for kids age 5 to 12 in the mornings from 9 –noon. Children learn how to paint, drawn, collage and sculpt with teaching artists in two classes every day. All materials provided. Call the Museum at 543-8562, the website www.sloma.org.

For Adults, this Sunday the Museum of Art in SLO offers a lecture they call  Community, Creativity, Connection with Marti Fast at 3 pm. Cost is $5 members, $7 non members
Inspired by her father, Ms. Fast has followed in her father Nat Fast’s footsteps sharing her love of art with the community and with her students. Through the Santa Maria Arts Council grants program, in her work as Allan Hancock College’s art gallery direc­tor, as well as through her teaching, Ms. Fast chooses to make her community a better place. This passion for making a creative legacy she learned from her father, and she now passes it to her students. This Sunday she share the joys and challenges of being from a family of artists. Learn the secret of how a family that paints together, stays together.
The current exhibit is Like Daughter, Like Father: Recent Work by Marti and Nat Fast, July 2 - August 1, 2010, in the First Gallery. If the love of drawing is genetic, it certainly took hold with Marti Fast and her father, Nat.

Templeton: Tomorrow night you are invited out to Templeton to enjoy the lively music of the group “Café Musique” as they perform at the CD release party for their second recording project ‘Catching Your Breath’, Saturday July 17 at Castoro Cellars in Templeton. The music begins at 7 pm  at 1315 N Bethel Rd, tickets are $15 and are available in advance by online reservations at http://www.castorocellars.com/events or calling 888.DAM.FINE or at the door. Food and drink are available for purchase. They may hail from the central coast of California, but the members of Café Musique have at least one foot each planted deep in foreign soil. Merging five very different musical backgrounds, the quintet concocts sets of music that range far and wide, from classical to swing music, from gypsy jazz to tango, with a few waltzes thrown in for good measure! Combining the beauty of the violin with the dynamic expression of the accordion, Café Musique adds compelling vocal harmonies to the mix of timeless standards and new compositions. The quintet features Brynn Albanese on violin and vocals, Piper Heisig on percussion and vocals, Duane Inglish on accordion, Fred Murray on bass, and Craig Nuttycombe on guitar and vocals. www.cafemusique.org

S. Barbara: This weekend in Santa Barbara in Oak Park on various weekends it’s the 23rd Annual French Festival with food, music and entertainment Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 7 pm. Admission is free, there is continuous free entertainment on three different stages, dozens of chefs prepare fine French food –everything from crepes to Cajun and decadent desserts and pastries.  – it’s a great way to celebrate Bastille Day in Santa Barbara Saturday and Sunday in Oak Park from 11am to 7 pm.

Paso Robles: The Central Coast Shakespeare Festival presents two plays this season on  Friday and Saturday nights performances are at 7:30 pm, on Sundays there is a matinee – this Sunday, July 18th there is a 6 pm performance of The Gamester. Tonight is the opening performance of Twelth Night at 7:30 pm. So, pack your picnic baskets, bring your friends and family and enjoy classic theatre under the stars. The season brings you two comedies, The Gamester,  Twelfth Night on alternating evenings dates now through August 14th at the River Oaks Amphitheater in Paso Robles. Cambria: In Cambria, the one-woman performance, The Belle of Amherst begins at 7:30 PM at the Theater at the old Grammar School located at 1350 Main Street. Performances continue through the month of July on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 and Sunday matinees at 3 in the afternoon. The Belle of Amherst is a 90 minute one-woman show by William Luce, based on the life of Emily Dickinson, a witty and moving tribute to the poet's life and work, starring Emma Duncan.  19 year-old Emma Duncan is a college junior and soon-to-be London theater student, For tickets ($12) and reservations, 927-8190.  http://artistsofcambria.com  1350 Main St. Cambria

S. Barbara: The Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum hosts the community event and fundraiser: From Dusk ‘til Drawn: a 24-hour Drawing Rally. The Rally begins in one week, on Friday July 23rd at 6 pm and continues through Saturday July 24th at 6 pm at the Arts Forum. Admission is $5 and you can purchase artworks hot off the presses for as low as $25.  . Drawing is broadly interpreted and works by artists of all disciplines, skill levels, and ages are expected to grace the walls throughout the 24-hour event, so please drop by more than once to see it all unfold or scoop up that one-of-a-kind work.
