SLO: At Arts Obispo, in the Creamery in San Luis Obispo, this Saturday, you can learn to create a beautiful organically-inspired wall hanging using a unique blend of rich materials in the workshop Mosaic Art, Naturally! Taught by Fred and Donnell Pasion of the popular Passiflora Mosaics. During the next 6 months, 12 workshops donated by local artists/instructors are offered by ARTS Obispo in support of making this year’s ticket to the Open Studios Art Tour free to all visitors. Sign ups are being taken now for the first three workshops in the series titled 12x12(x12). The workshops are celebrating 12 Years of Open Studios, with 12 creative workshops, for 12 participants. The cost of each workshop is $75. An additional materials fee is applicable for some workshops. Barbara: The Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation at Casa de la Guerra is proud to present Alfredo Zalce (Zall-say): Works on Paper, featuring thirty-one works on paper by distinguished Mexican artist Alfredo Zalce (1908–2003). Belonging to the second generation of Mexico’s great revolutionary muralists, Zalce studied at the National School of Fine Arts under Diego Rivera and was a younger contemporary of other great revolutionary Mexican artists. These select works of art demonstrate the influence of 19th century lithographers and caricaturists on the artist’s graphic style. Los Osos: Mark your calendars for the Second Annual Children’s Craft Fair, which offers the chance to support local budding artists. Saturday August 7th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Los Osos Library, children 13 years and younger display crafts and food for sale including bookmarks, paintings, photography, wallets, jewelry, and baked goods. All pieces will be priced at $4 or less, and many children will be raising money for charities and non-profit organizations. Live music is provided by Bucket Busters at 11:30 a.m. Last year’s event drew over 300 people and featured the work of over 75 children. The Children’s Craft Faire is August 7th and sponsored by the Friends of the Los Osos Library, 528-1862.
SLO: There’s a three-day Watercolor Workshop with Robert Reynolds this September 7, 8 and 9, designed especially for the person “just getting started” or the “experienced beginner”, who would like to gain a better control and understanding of transparent watercolor. Robert Reynolds has been teaching watercolor classes, indoors and outdoors, for over 35 years. His artwork is in over 1,200 collections. The three-day indoor class is divided into six lessons, each offering an important aspect utilizing transparent watercolor. Learning these basic watercolor techniques will help the student to progress to a more advanced level with greater understanding and ease. The workshop is held at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art from 9am to 4 daily, student fee for the three-day workshop is $275 members, $300 nonmembers. Call 805.543.8562 ext. 14 to register. S. Maria: In Santa Maria The Town Center Gallery offers “Walk on the Wild Side of Art” Art Camp, next week July 26-30. Camp is for children ages 5-15 attend five mornings from 11:30 am to 1 in the afternoon and for five afternoons from 1:30 to 3 for classes. The morning class theme is Australia, and activities include Tribal Trade Beads and Walk About Paintings. The afternoon theme is Asia, with activities including Chinese Brush Painting and Monkey Drawing. The cost for each set of five classes is $40. The gallery also holds children's art classes every Saturday during the summer from 11:30 am to 1:30 in collage, drawing, painting and printmaking. The cost of each class is $10, or $40 a month. Pre registration is requested at 934-5835. The Gallery is located at 321 Town Center West, B-6, near Big 5 Sporting Goods. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday 11-5 and there is no cost to view the art by gallery members on display. Cambria: Plan ahead for the Tenth Annual Great Kitchens of Cambria Tour Saturday July 31 from 11:00 am to 3:00. Sponsored by Friends of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve (FFRP), a non-profit organization, the Kitchen Four raises funds for conservation of animal habitat and historic trail maintenance and more at the 440-acre Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. This year you can visit eight new or newly remodeled kitchens, in a wide variety of styles. These great Cambria kitchens are chosen for creative touches, design and functionality. Each location offers visitors the chance to sample gourmet treats, beverages or wine tasting, view kitchen related demos and displays, and enter drawings for terrific prizes. Raffle tickets may be purchased at all locations for $1 each or six for $5. For the first time, a collection of Ranch Event Recipes will be offered for sale, the day of the Tour, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the acquisition of the Ranch and the Kitchen Tour. Mark Robert Halper is a fine art and portrait photographer is generously giving an exclusive peek at some yet to be released work from his upcoming Sunlight and Water Exhibition. He is joined by winemakers from MARGERUM, Happy Canyon and Cimarone: each pouring their own wines. This one-time-only, preview event will include images that have never been publicly presented.
