S. Maria: This Summer the Dunes Center in collaboration with Northern Santa Barbara County United Way is hosting the summer teen program, Fun In The Sun (FITS).
If you would like to volunteer – there’s a place for you to participate in Lunch Bunch. Lunch Bunch is an opportunity for any adult in the community to spend an hour eating lunch with the students participating in FITS. Lunch Bunch is meant to be informal, we just ask for volunteers to come, sit down and chat with the kids for an hour. It serves as a way for students to interact with different individuals from different aspects of life within the community. Bring your own lunch, and feel free to bring some lunch to share (pizza always goes over well).
If you or your colleagues are interested in participating, the FITS program began in June and runs until August 6th, 2010 with sites located in Santa Maria (Abel Maldonado Youth Center) and Guadalupe (Mary Buren Elementary School).
There are approximately 13-20 participants at each site. Lunch is held from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, and volunteers need to arrive 10-15 minutes early.
YOU CAN SIGNUP ONLINE: http://www.dunescenter.org/Education/lunchbunch.html. Our goal is to have at least two volunteers at each site every day.
Sandy Soria Sosa, Director of Community Impact of Northern Santa Barbara County United Way is helping The Dunes Center put together the schedule. If you have any scheduling questions you can contact her by email at sandy@uwcentralcoast.org or by phone at (805) 922-0329 x 105. Make a difference and brighten a child's day by serving as a positive role model!
